Dr. Frank is a former football player in the National Football League, willing to help professional football, baseball players and other professional athletes
They say no one can help a person struggling with alcohol or drug dependence more than someone who understands the process and is enjoying their own recovery. Dr. Frank is grateful to be such a person, recovering from his own dependency issues for more than 15 years. This means he brings first hand knowledge, perspective and personal experience as an invaluable guide for his clients. There is no substitute for this special common denominator and bond.
In June 2004, Dr. Frank accomplished a lifelong goal when he earned his doctoral degree in counseling psychology. He is currently the executive director of New Pathway Counseling Services and previously was director of the Family Recovery Program, an adolescent and adult rehabilitation facility. He has served in public education as the director of an alternative high school for troubled teens. During his tenure there, he developed a peer leadership initiative and implemented a variety of community action programs. Dr. Frank served as a chemical dependency counselor while coaching at Montclair University.
It has always been Dr. Frank's heartfelt desire to help people discover and tap their own inner strength and use it to overcome their life’s problems. Dr. Frank is a dynamic speaker and often presents workshops to help individuals experience their authentic self, helping them to be far more effective in managing the challenges they face in their daily lives. Dr. Frank is continually expanding his knowledge within the field of addiction studies. He is currently working on a project integrating a powerful tool known as mindfulness as a method of reducing stress and relapse prevention.
No one gets to be a professional athlete without a tremendous amount of self-discipline coupled with the iron will to succeed. From 1983 until 1987, Dr. Frank Mattiace was a professional football player. He played for the Green Bay Packers, New Jersey Generals and Detroit Lions. Dr. Frank was also an excellent coach at both the college and professional level. He was a general manager, head coach and line coach in the Arena Football League.
Dr. Frank channels the same level of commitment and excellence into his clinical practice as he did into his professional athletic and coaching career. There are many similarities between coaching and counseling. Both require knowledge, patience, caring and the ability to motivate.
